Compiler optimizations

Overview

Description of the optimizations automatically performed by the compiler.

The compiler performs a number of optimizations to improve the performance of the generated code. We can distinguish between three types of optimizations:

• Code annotations: these optimizations are performed by the compiler based on the annotations provided by the user. For example, the compiler can allocate a variable in a concrete register if the user specifies it.
• Code optimizations: these optimizations are automatically performed by the compiler to simplify the code. For example, the compiler can remove dead code or simplify inserts and extracts, or the compiler can merge two operations VADD and VMAC into a single one VADDMAC (if possible).
